"Raven" Claire Polanski
Art as a Spring Renewal Ritual

“Raven” Claire Polansky is an artist, art therapist, and educator. She holds an M.A. in Expressive Arts therapy, where transpersonal theory and eco-psychology was an integral part of her coursework. She holds a B.F.A. in painting as well. As a lifelong “gypsy”, Claire Polansky counts her constantly changing visual, aural, and emotional landscape among her artistic and spiritual influences. She is currently one of the founding members of Beit Kayam, a Jewish Eco-Collective in Portland, where she helps lead workshops on sustainability within the framework of Judaism. And of course the arts are a key component to her workshops.

The emergence of spring is the time of renewal, growth, and transformation. Animals begin to mate or give birth, plants begin to flower and bloom, and we begin to sew our seeds in the gardens. This is also the time when balance is achieved by equalizing day and night. Hence, it is to no surprise that many religious and spiritual holidays are present during springtime. This workshop will honor an amalgamation of these traditions as participants remember the darkness and balance it with light. They will be invited to create a community mandala in the shape of a flower. A grounding/rooting exercise will also be present. Participants will be invited to use natural and recycled materials.

Tom Lange
Sacred Sound Meditation Journey

Join us for a sacred sound meditation journey. We will fill the room with deep harmonic resonance from didjeridus, Himalayan singing bowls, gongs, Native American flute and much more. Relax as we float through the room playing on and over you so you feel as well as hear the soundwaves. Allow these vibrations to release stagnant energy and clear the mind.

Bring a pillow and blanket if possible for extra comfort.

Tom Lange has been a musician most of his life. He has been playing the didjeridu for 14 years and was immediately drawn to the deep healing resonance of this instrument.

Jen Ervast has a scientific background but with a strong intuition and knew she needed to work with sound.

Together we offer sound sessions for individuals, couples and groups. We occasionally offer sound healing workshops and other events and are currently working on recording a new cd.

Grey Wolf
Jammin in the House of Life!

This workshop will quickly introduce basic hand technique and tones on African style instruments (Djembe, Ashiko, Ngoma) and present a rhythm set (the House of Life) crafted to accompany the traditional song.

MARTIN \"GREYWOLF\" MURPHY has been fascinated with rhythm his entire life. He became a percussion instructor and rhythm circle facilitator in 1992, after several years of study. He and his wife, Bhrigha (who he met at a drum circle he was facilitating!) were co-founders (with Eugene Snowden) of Orlando's Umoja Percussion Ensemble (1996-1998), playing coffee houses and big venues such as the Social on a regular basis. As an incorrigible rhythm junkie he has incorporated a wide diversity of tribal instruments (as well as found and created ones) into his performances and recordings, including performing and sequencing with the Handsonic and other electronic percussion.

His discography includes Sambadromo (Bodhisattva); Sambadromo (Bananas); Red Shift Mantra (Phoneme, 2005), and Gypsy Caravan (Remarkably Re-Mixed Caravan Rhythms - 2007). Greywolf produced and released The SHREDD! Percussion Ensemble CD. This Is Your Brain On Drums in 2003, and Tribica in 2007.

He has studied with modern-day drum masters in West & Central African traditions on ngoma, djembe, djun djunba, sangban, and kinkini, as well as Middle Eastern technique & rhythms on Egyptian/Moroccan tabla, riq, and frame drums. Greywolf & Bhrigha produced, directed, and performed in the award-winning "The Extraordinary Fila" for the 2005 and 2006 Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival. Other notable performances include Majas Spirit of the Tribes 5 and 6 (2005-6) with Bhrigha GypsiKelts.

Greywolf also loves to play wind instruments, such as Native American and tribal flutes, antique & modern ocarinas, Irish pennywhistles, and various other end- blown instruments. Completely self-taught, his wind music is ethereal, happy, and haunting.

Greywolf completed the Remo HealthRhythms Facilitator Training and is a Rhythmic Entrainment Intervention (REI) Authorized Provider, and a PURE (Public Urban Ritual Experiment) Drum Faciltator. He also founded a Drums Not Drugs program in Orlando, FL and presented drumming as a community and self-esteem building exercise for at-risk and challenged youth at counseling centers and in various schools. He is currently thrilled to be playing with Mizna/the Gypsy Caravan Band since June 2007 as well as the West Coast realization of Shredd and Murfeus Percussion Lab, his home-based professional recording studio.
